poem: "The Invitation" By Oriah Mountain Dreaming

[orig published 2016-10-11--1042hest]

My reiki teacher shared this poem with some of us while we were learning from her.  It speaks to me of irreverence, the kind that lets us be true to ourselves and find and share our authenticity.  It speaks to me of love coming from a rare, deep place, that is more than simply longing or lust or fairytale romance, but in speaking to find that missing piece of your soul, a soul mate, who can walk this world with you even when the journey grows dark or uncomfortable, someone you can journey with and know your love is true and real when sometimes you have to struggle to find the love and the beauty... someone who can reach inside of themselves, and their loved ones, and snatch the beauty and mystery and love and wonder and joy from the regular days of our lives, from the smiles we share doing the chores, the laughs we share over spilled milk and taking care of the kids, the hugs we share that are so deep and meaningful when we part for a time, and we know we won't feel complete until this other part of us returns again.  I'm not sure if these words I write now are true, but they feel true in my heart right now.

The Invitation
by Oriah Mountain Dreaming

It doesn’t interest me
what you do for a living.
I want to know
what you ache for
and if you dare to dream
of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me
how old you are.
I want to know
if you will risk
looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me
what planets are
squaring your moon...
I want to know
if you have touched
the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened
by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.

I want to know
if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.

I want to know
if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you
to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations
of being human.

It doesn’t interest me
if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear
the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.

I want to know
if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live
or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me
who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me
where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know
what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.

I want to know
if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like
the company you keep
in the empty moments.

[WIP] Some tips in health and losing weight

some easy tips in supporting your weightloss journey

[note to self: dude, totally update this, you totally have way more and better stuff now!!!]

shortened url
http://is.gd/healthy_eating_support

[edit: Dr. Mark Hyman had a really cool fat summit about facts on fat and healthy diet. some things he shared include:
cholesterol is not considered a main culprit in heart disease anymore
eating fat doesn't mean people put fat on their bodies; we have to break down fat in order to absorb it; one of the main ways fat is put on the body is from blood sugar level spikes; another effect of high blood sugar is the cellular malabsorbtion of vitamin c (this is actually from the truth about cancer,  a global quest
http://fatsummit.com/
drhyman.com
eatfatgethin.com
]

some people think eating fat makes you fat, but there is a cycle with sugar that is actually way more to blame... you can actually lose weight on a high fat diet ...

when your blood sugar spikes, your calcium and phosphorous levels get messed up, which affects your body pH, and your body dumps insulin into the blood, telling the body to drop this high level of sugar, by storing it and turning it into fat... but with sugar high spikes, the body often over-reacts, and then you get a sugar low again... which makes you crave sugar... which can set the process up happening all over again... having healthy fats, slow digesting carbs like vegetables and fruits (the fibre makes a postive difference, fruit juice can be another story...) and slow digesting proteins like hemp hearts, helps to keep you feeling sated for longer.

if you make sure to have healthier snacks around when you do have the munchies, this helps keep your blood sugar and energy level more even.

another issue that can keep weight on a person, is when that person has a toxic load in their bodies.  One of the functions the fat serves is to bind up toxins; when you shed the fat, those toxins become concentrated in your body again.  So a good detox can help make it easier to lose weight; supporting organs which do this job, like the liver, is one way.  Having healthy fats which are free of toxins (say organic extra virgin coconut oil?) will let your body remove the old fat with its toxins, replace it with the good oils, which is then safer to metabolize.  certain healthy oils help you metabolize fat better, and zinc is important in making sure your body is creating the enzymes and certain other compounds that the body needs to function.  also, a little protein powder that is in a readily absorbable form, will help make sure your body is not starving for essential amino acids from protein, if you have oxidative stress for example, which can cause issues disrupting your enzymes in your stomach and elsewhere where these proteins would normally be broken down, so they can be absorbed.

another source of toxins is meat.  toxins in the environment, like pesticides, can aggregate as it moves up the food chain.  organic, grass fed meets and limiting intake of possible sources of these toxins can help.

two vitamins can really help too, in particular: vitamin d and vitamin c.
vitamin d is important in making many of your body's hormones; many pesticides etc are hormone disruptors. supplementing vitamin d is a great way to keep your mood and hormones in balance especially in the darker months, since we normally make vitamin d when sunlight hits our skin (a process with cholesterol or something?)  vitamin c is an antioxidant; when humans were frugivores, eating mostly fruit in the jungle, we got lots, but with less of this intake, we often are a bit low, especially if we are getting stressed with some heavy metals or sickness ... normally the body can recycle its vitamin c, so there may be issues with this too.  taking anti-oxidants like vitamin c will make sure your body doesn't get over-oxidized (like the oxidative stress issue)

there are foods that help your body produce glutathione, as welll, which is one of the body's main methods of detoxing.

and note that refined sugar can often absorb directly into your blood through your skin (which is great to know if a diabetic overdoses on insulin so they don't die, you give them some sugar basically), but this does not happen with the slightly more complex sugars of fruit, milk, and honey, so even making this switch will slow down how quickly you absorb sugar, which is what you want...

so frozen grapes as a sweet snack, totally ok!  mr freezies etc... not as good (refined sugar in liquid tends to absorb really fast, a diabetic friend once told me...so it is a no no for him).

health problems feedback loop

[orig published 2019-02-16]

Food allergies - lack of digestion due to lack of enzymes to break down protein fully - (oxidative stress, inflammation is one source, can contribute to this) - body starts to starve of amino acids that body is not digesting/ passing through the gut - histamine levels and neurotransmitters end up dysfunctional due to lack of nutrients - allergies start to go out of whack because histamine is an autacoid - gut releases zonulin to allow more protein through the gut wall, including undigested gluten and casein from milk protein (leaky gut syndrome ) body and gut ends up way more inflamed - cycle is self regenerating as health declines, and gut dysbiosis might be compounded by harsh medical interventions like antibiotics, antihistamines, aluminum in the body or brain that keeps the body/brain locked in an inflammation state and unable to heal. Antioxidants sometimes help, easily digestible protein powder, enzyme supplements or a gentle reintroduction of healthy probiotics and regular prebiotics that feed important good bacteria, as well as moving away from harsh medical interventions in non-emergencies. HTHs

---> breast milk sugars maybe are for the huge amount of milk digesting bacteria in the breast milk? The sugar is for the good milk bacteria, digesting the bacteria is the 'whole food' that gives a rapidly growing baby all the nutrients it needs in high doses, while protecting it's undeveloped immune system from harmful bacteria even while it's digestion system is not fully capable of digesting other food yet. Collostrum in mother's breast milk passes on her immunities without the baby having to have been exposed to those illnesses - it might also pass on sensitivities? But I would say there are probably a few good things from raw milk. It's possible raw milk could give people REAL, ACTUAL IMMUNITY to a lot of diseases. But I guess you take your chances, since it's illegal to be sold in regular grocery stores for people in most of North America ...

Does God or aliens exist? Ghosts or spirits?

Do aliens exist?  What about God?  What about ghosts or spirits?

What do _I_ believe?

So, in short, I like to be 'open the possibility', but I try not to be 'too attached' to
need for things to be so (or NOT be so...).

To not get TOO obsessed, and to carry on with my normal life, as best as possible, rather than waiting to have 'all the answers' to the 'big questions' before really being able to carry on with my life.  But I like to stay curious, and try to investigate a little more regularly, as time permits, on many things which I am curious about... sometimes first as stories, or thought experiments, and then sometimes looking at more serious research or other peoples' investigations into things.  Sometimes a really well done piece of something seems to just fall into my lap, so I try to give it good attention, be a little bit critical, but not to proceed henceforth that, without further investigation, that I necessarily have any kind of 'final' or 'absolute' answer.

A philosopher named Berkeley shared an idea, that, essentially, the universe as we know it, is the mind of God, and we are thoughts, ideas, within this... Gaia hypothesis talks about meta-organisms, and the idea that higher levels of consciousness may 'aggregate' from component beings at different levels - Douglas Hofstadter's Anthill and the Anteater analogy story talks about this a little bit.  The matrix series of movies took another angle, also very powerful- that everything we know could be illusions created by technology, and essentially we could wake from a dream within a dream to a real world which is very different from what we know.

Amit Goswami talks about the idea of Consciousness itself being the fundamental level of reality, and that mind and brain, or thought and physical reality, arise from more fundamental existence of 'everything as consciousness itself'.

Can we test this?  Do we even WANT to?  Philosopher Alan Watts gives a story, about us, that we are an indescribeably powerful being, and begin to cocreate grander realities, with greater and great power and awareness, until, perhaps, somewhat like in the Doctor Strange movie, that some of us come back to this more 'ordinary' seeming reality, and find that these more mundane seemings challenges, problems, little spurts of growth, and conscious, love and hate, joy and sorrow... are actually where we WANT TO BE, in the NOW.  What if when we Dream, we connect to this world of infinite possibilities, and can plan our next day or little steps in our journey, our explorations... from a place of greater awareness?

Sometimes, our emotions can feel so strong... especially about things we experience in reality... could we have possibly ever wanted things to be this way?  Or sometimes we seem to feel so numb, or detached... not feeling very alive, sometimes for long periods of time... could there be a reason for this, also?

In a book I enjoyed very much, called "The Edgar Cayce Handbook to Creating Your Future", by Mark Thurston and Christopher Fazel, it explores some helpful questions to help us feel connected enough to a higher perspective to kind of center ourselves in a spiritual knowing and reality, without needing to be too ungrounded in the present moment around us, I found.  To be able to ask spiritual questions, test them while holding a certain amount of faith, and then seeing what really seems to come from this, without necessarily having to know exactly how or why things work, but exploring, testing, and building a groundwork in some ideas that can help us have a meaningful and helpful spiritual life that complements our social and material life also- the reality as we are living in it more directly through our senses.

Maybe sometimes the question 'why' is more important than 'if' or 'how'... a why that is personal to our own sense of meaning and being... or maybe, sometimes, that is enough, for many of us, for now...

So I've digressed a little, so:

Do I believe in aliens?  If so, why haven't they landed and introduced themselves already?  Someone who says he channels a being he calls Bashar gives an answer I like to this question, and some other related relevant ideas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNco1gqaSDw

Is there other sentient life on the universe?  I wonder if we even need to look to outer space, to find it?

In this 'In Search Of...' episode, Leonard Nimoy and their show investigates the possibility that plants can communicate with each other telepathically, as a 'for instance' of what I was mentioning above.  For those who wish to question more close to home, there are those who study animal language who have decoded a great deal of what some animals are communicating when they are making noises, including how and what they are thinking, and what level of consciousness and emotions they may experience, partly in relation or comparison to our own human experiences.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BkKFxeGwO8

Ghosts and spirits?  Consciousness outside of the body, out of the physical context familiar to us?  Could this exist?  Could life after death exist?
So I don't have any definitive answer for people on this; I have mused and dreamed many odd dreams, some of them only half remembered, of different worlds, and beliefs, of God and Angels, of higher consciousnesses of ourselves only dipping parts of ourselves into realities in order to have a fun, but within certain limits, exchanges with 'other' higher beings... sometimes, or maybe always? depending on your level of stratification in considering all things being one whole... always parts of us, but sometimes only interacting with certain pieces, for certain reasons, at certain times, in certain narratives?  Is this a useful exploration for you?  Probably anything I can dream, you can dream too... but maybe you won't... if it doesn't 'call' to you... so there we are... are there some obtuse higher beings, strange irrational numbers that must stay in the far depths of the abyss, because they are too foreign to most consciousnesses to be able to come too close to them?  Lonely stars or galaxies or angels, wishing for their song to be heard and loved?  I've dreamed stranger dreams...

Thank you for reading.

[WIP] Healing Leaky Gut

www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/features/leaky-gut-syndrome

"A possible cause of leaky gut is increased intestinal permeability or intestinal hyperpermeability. That could happen when tight junctions in the gut, which control what passes through the lining of the small intestine, don't work properly. That could let substances leak into the bloodstream."

So if you look up leaky gut, you should be able to find some good resources.
I will try to give you a little bit of a run down on it from what I think I know, but feel free to check online to see what people say too.

Essentially, healing leaky gut should solve some of the crohn's problems you are having.

ok so basically, when we are 'starving', or nutrients aren't passing through the intestinal wall, a chemical called 'zonulin' gets released, that tells the gut to thin, so nutrients can get through.
If your food isn't digesting properly, especially proteins, and your body is 'starving' for these nutrients, it might make the gut too thin.

There are a few reasons this could happen.  One of them is a depletion of enzymes (normally made by the liver) which help digest things, for one, proteins.  Missing the right microorganisms in your gut to help you digest things might be a reason, too.
Something called 'oksidative stress' is one thing that can damage enzymes before they digest things.  In my case, high levels of copper in my body may have done it, and keep doing it.  But during inflammation, the body releases h2o2, which has ekstra oksygen in order to oksidize pathogens, but this can damage important healthy enzymes in our bodies as well.
One thing I do to boost my body's ability to deal with the ekstra oksidative stress is take vitamin c.  I usually take a timed release vitamin c, because otherwise, we may pee most of it out when we have too high level all at once.  So a lower increased amount of a longer period of time i find works better for me.
Some b vitamins and vitamin d helps me too, I think.  Vitamin D is the basis of a lot of hormones and some of the immune system.  Many B vitamins are precursors to neurotransmitters we need in the brain.

So, back to leaky gut.  So your gut is thin, and undigested proteins and other things are getting into your body.  Your body is having allergies to a lot of this, or at any rate inflammation to these foreign bodies.  So people often become sensitive to gluten and casein, a grain and a milk protein, respectively, that often doesn't get digested fully when we aren't digesting things properly, that may get into the blood stream.  So when this is really serious, it can be like celiac disease, and can cause problems with our neurology... basically we are always in inflammation and irritable etc.

Oh, if our blood sugar is constantly high, it is harder for cells to absorb vitamin c, since glucose and vitamin c compete for absorbtion into cells.  When cells have more vitamin c, it helps to protect them from oksidizers and things, so you don't get 'scurvy' like cellular damage from inflammation as much.

Here, before I go on, I'll put some links on leaky gut in here... and I will try to read some of these myself too to make sure I'm hopefully giving you good information.

http://scdlifestyle.com/2010/03/the-scd-diet-and-leaky-gut-syndrome/
https://blog.kettleandfire.com/how-to-heal-leaky-gut-syndrome/

One of the things I learned from being giving a free trial at this advanced protein nutrition place, who normally do a protocol to cure people of cancer, in ottawa, called immune system management, is that one can take supplements of readily digestible proteins/aminoacids, like protein powder, and the body stops starving for these, and some of the other issues start to repair themselves by itself- the immune system can regulate itself properly again, we are getting enough neurotransmitters again, are body is beginning to have what it needs to make more enzymes, to make compounds to detoks metals from the body, to fight off infections; when we have the right amount of histamine, we start becoming desensitized to common allergens, and we have less alergic reactions/ inflammation, partly because our body knows how to manage it, and is telling our body 'we got this, don't worry about this one any more too much'.

At the Immune system management clinic in Ottawa, they would take blood tests, to check my levels of amino acids, and they would adjust a custom formula of amino acids to help balance my immune and neurochemistry so that it was more healthy... which also means detoksing some of the things that were causing the problem in the first place, probably, which for me, was copper!  They never tested for copper, so they didn't know that was an issue, but the protocol works, because it helps get the body's own repair systems working again, and the wisdom and knowledge of our own body's to heal itself is much greater than sciences right now (or at least most individual scientists or doctors, taken by themselves... there is just so much to know!)

Now, protein supplements will help, taking enzymes will help, but getting our body back to working properly again rekwires a bit more than our own body working properly again... we need to restore our partnership with the many many different kinds of microorganisms we are living in symbiosis with in our gut... meaning we may be missing some of the ones that we really need, especially if we've had to take antibiotics, and some of the ones that aren't as prolific when we are healthy may be overgrowing (maybe they are helping with certain problems, like yeast helping bind heavy metals, but it is causing so many other problems, its something you want to kind of help your body be able to take over doing better by itself.  Which you CAN do.
But to get some of these good bacteria, or gut flora, back, one way to do this is to have 'prebiotic' food, which feeds things in our gut, because we can digest it, but they can, and another things we can do is having 'probiotic foods', that have some of the 'good bacteria' we need in them.  Another thing we can do is fast for longer between meals, instead of snacking, and the enzymes and gut fluids will help to kill the bacteria we don't want and promote the ones we do... but you will get hungry! if you are mostly doing a carbs diet... with fast absorbing carbs... so you need something that digests more slowly and absorbs more slowly over time... vegetables and vegetable fibre do this, but fats do this as well.  As I've shared with you before, Dr. Mark Hyman has spoken a lot about how one can be healthier on a high fat diet, by choosing healthier fats, etc, and not having too much sugar with it, so that your body switches to a ketogenic metabolism, or basically using fat instead of sugar, which is also great for the brain, like coconut oil and mct or medium chain triglycerides can really feed the brain well too.  So check out dr. mark hyman's site and see about some high fat meals that will help you burn the fat on your body off!

http://drhyman.com/

Now, I know I only know a little, and lots of other people, who may not have been eksamining this particular problem, may have created things like recipes, foods, and diets that help people to be well, so another thing you might try, which might help you become well, and enjoy doing it!, is just to see some of the work other people have done on how to eat well to be healthy, because basically, everything we might do with supplements and drugs to be well, there is probably a way our body can do it itself, and the right foods help our body to do it.  For instance, fermented foods, like sauerkraut and kimchi (kimchi is really spicy, so maybe not for you at first), even soy has forms of it that are fermented - miso soup is one kind.

so I hope this helps.  I haven't read all the links I've posted above, but I plan to look them over, because these things will help me too.

be well.
