[edit: Dr. Mark Hyman had a really cool fat summit about facts on fat and healthy diet. some things he shared include:
cholesterol is not considered a main culprit in heart disease anymore
eating fat doesn't mean people put fat on their bodies; we have to break down fat in order to absorb it; one of the main ways fat is put on the body is from blood sugar level spikes; another effect of high blood sugar is the cellular malabsorbtion of vitamin c (this is actually from the truth about cancer, a global quest

some people think eating fat makes you fat, but there is a cycle with sugar that is actually way more to blame... you can actually lose weight on a high fat diet ...
when your blood sugar spikes, your calcium and phosphorous levels get messed up, which affects your body pH, and your body dumps insulin into the blood, telling the body to drop this high level of sugar, by storing it and turning it into fat... but with sugar high spikes, the body often over-reacts, and then you get a sugar low again... which makes you crave sugar... which can set the process up happening all over again... having healthy fats, slow digesting carbs like vegetables and fruits (the fibre makes a postive difference, fruit juice can be another story...) and slow digesting proteins like hemp hearts, helps to keep you feeling sated for longer.
if you make sure to have healthier snacks around when you do have the munchies, this helps keep your blood sugar and energy level more even.
another issue that can keep weight on a person, is when that person has a toxic load in their bodies. One of the functions the fat serves is to bind up toxins; when you shed the fat, those toxins become concentrated in your body again. So a good detox can help make it easier to lose weight; supporting organs which do this job, like the liver, is one way. Having healthy fats which are free of toxins (say organic extra virgin coconut oil?) will let your body remove the old fat with its toxins, replace it with the good oils, which is then safer to metabolize. certain healthy oils help you metabolize fat better, and zinc is important in making sure your body is creating the enzymes and certain other compounds that the body needs to function. also, a little protein powder that is in a readily absorbable form, will help make sure your body is not starving for essential amino acids from protein, if you have oxidative stress for example, which can cause issues disrupting your enzymes in your stomach and elsewhere where these proteins would normally be broken down, so they can be absorbed.
another source of toxins is meat. toxins in the environment, like pesticides, can aggregate as it moves up the food chain. organic, grass fed meets and limiting intake of possible sources of these toxins can help.
two vitamins can really help too, in particular: vitamin d and vitamin c.
vitamin d is important in making many of your body's hormones; many pesticides etc are hormone disruptors. supplementing vitamin d is a great way to keep your mood and hormones in balance especially in the darker months, since we normally make vitamin d when sunlight hits our skin (a process with cholesterol or something?) vitamin c is an antioxidant; when humans were frugivores, eating mostly fruit in the jungle, we got lots, but with less of this intake, we often are a bit low, especially if we are getting stressed with some heavy metals or sickness ... normally the body can recycle its vitamin c, so there may be issues with this too. taking anti-oxidants like vitamin c will make sure your body doesn't get over-oxidized (like the oxidative stress issue)
there are foods that help your body produce glutathione, as welll, which is one of the body's main methods of detoxing.
and note that refined sugar can often absorb directly into your blood through your skin (which is great to know if a diabetic overdoses on insulin so they don't die, you give them some sugar basically), but this does not happen with the slightly more complex sugars of fruit, milk, and honey, so even making this switch will slow down how quickly you absorb sugar, which is what you want...
so frozen grapes as a sweet snack, totally ok! mr freezies etc... not as good (refined sugar in liquid tends to absorb really fast, a diabetic friend once told me...so it is a no no for him).
